Gas Cylinder Purchase

After losing their home in the flood, a mother and her student child were forced to relocate to the grandmother’s house. The family’s financial situation remains highly unstable; the mother has no steady employment and relies on irregular casual labor and growing vegetables in their garden to get by, supplemented by occasional financial help from her sisters. While government compensation allowed the family to replace basic furniture and purchase a gas cooker, they lacked the funds to buy the actual gas cylinder required to use it.
Without a working indoor stove, the mother was forced to cook all their meals outside on a traditional wood-fired stove—a severe daily hardship, especially during heavy rains. To resolve this immediate struggle, the project stepped in to fund the purchase of a new gas cylinder for Rs. 22,500. Additionally, the project provided Rs. 2,900 for a new pair of school shoes for the student, bringing the total project cost to Rs. 25,400 (plus minor, unrecorded transport costs).
This targeted assistance ensures the family has a safe, reliable indoor cooking setup regardless of the weather. Furthermore, providing the school shoes removes an immediate out-of-pocket expense for the mother, allowing her to better manage her limited income as she prepares for her child's upcoming Advanced Level tuition fees.
