• Transportation cost: LKR 73,000 - we hired a lorry with a driver to transport the supplies from Piliyandala to the villages below (also delivered to Kandy on the same trip)

• Delivery logistics: 

  • Our volunteer in Mahiyangana area had previously assessed the needs of the mostly impacted families in this area and we had a list of families that we were targeting by the effort.

  • Going with a lorry full of supplies directly to these areas affected was deemed very risky, because:

    • It was dangerous due to road and other conditions

    • People affected here are really under a lot of stress with no prior supplies received

  • We took help from another contact in there with a smaller vehicle to deliver the items to a specific location in batches of 5-10 families at a time and called out the names of those families and delivered the supplies accordingly

  • We had to take these steps to ensure the safety of all the volunteers and the supplies involved
